Stash Bustin' At The Den

Stashes. We all have one. Even if we don't want to admit it out loud. Check out TheStitchin' Den's ideas for taming the beast. We now have Stimulus Yarns by Dye Lot out of Santa Fe. These yarns take the idea of combining multiple textures and colors resulting in a "package" of yarns. The company is owned by a single mom in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She hand dyes all of her own fibers. Yummy!!!

The Stitchin’ Den is a haven for knitters, stitchers and crocheters.
It's a cool haven nestled in the picturesque setting of pines, trout ponds and waterfalls in The Courtyard Shops. Summertime offers knitting on the deck as well as in the shop.
Project ideas fill the shop while staff are ready and waiting to assist with all your questions. We have great ideas for fun summer knitting and stitchin'.
The project of the month is this stiylish kicky summer skirt. It is fun and lends itself to a wide range of knitting comfort levels and design adventure. Supplies to knit your skirt are all 10% off during the months of July and August. Shirley is offering a class in skirt design in August.

The Color of the Month for July's colors are solid red, white or blue. August's color will be orange for fall or for the start of Bronco season.
Every month, there is a different color of yarn spot-lighted. During this month, any regularly priced yarn in the shop that is the featured color will be 10% off!

Beginning in October, Marilyn Mueller will begin teaching classes at The Stitchin' Den. Check out our Creative Camp page for a schedule of her classes in Falling in Love With Color, Magnificent Mittens and Socks, Magnificent Hats and Headbands and The Brioche Stitch.

Felting is one of the most popular techniques being used in both knitting and crochet. Before you read on, you must be warned. Felting is very addictive.
Felting uses 100% or a wool blended with another animal fiber which is not washable or a super wash. A small percentage of a synthetic or “foo foo” yarn can be double stranded with the wool and felting usually occurs. If you aren’t sure how a fiber will felt, work a test swatch and see what happens.
Projects to be felted are worked oversize, about a third larger than normal. Hats, mittens, purses, bags and totes are the most popular to make. After your project is completed, place it in a white zippered pillowcase and put it in a top loading washing machine with a small amount of wool wash. We like Euclean or Wool Wash.
Believe it or not, wool has scales. When introduced to heat (hot water) these scales open up and rub together during the agitation cycle of washing causing the yarn to felt.
