Susan Mock started The Stitchin’ Den 18 years ago. She had been a nurse for her entire life and fell in love with Estes Park while working as director of Home Care and Hospice at the Estes Park Medical Center.
When she opened the business in May of 2000, it was actually two: the Rocky Mountain Bear Factory and The Stitchin’ Den. The Stitchin’ Den was almost an after thought because Susan really didn’t know how to knit, but everyone kept asking if she was opening a yarn shop.
Apparently the location was a yarn shop years ago. Long story short: Susan fell madly in love with the fiber side of the business and eventually sold the Bear Factory and kept expanding. We started with 500 square feet and now have 5000 square feet. We are online as well as our very eclectic shop in the Courtyard Shops in Estes Park.
We have seen how knitting, stitching, quilting, crocheting and punch needle rug hooking has helped so many people. Susan feels as if she’s done her duty when she hears all the “Wows” as people walk through the shop and leave with a new project or knowing that we have helped them solve a problem. The staff is truly amazing and so very talented. They love all of our lines and supply options that they don’t feel like we are selling, but helping everyone become more creative and confident.
